Kenapa perlu tahu definisi PCOS?

Apa yang public tahu mengenai PCOS?

rasanya di zaman sains dan teknologi ni ramai yang tahu PCOS kan

tapi istilah itu tidak semudah itu utk didefinisikan..

PC - PolyCystic

O - Ovaries

S- Syndrome

so akan ada keadaan dimana seseorang itu PCO namun tak semestinya ade PCOS.. 

definisi yang paling diterima umum untuk PCOS ni mengikut Rotterdam criteria - sempena mereka bersidang di Rotterdam pada tahun 2003.

mereka telah mempersetujui bahawasanya untuk meng-diagnos seseorang dengan PCOS haruslah memenuhi sekurang-kurangnya 2 daripada 3 criteria die bawah

 1.  menstrual irregularities/oligo/amenorrhea/chronic anovulation

 2. hyperandrogenism

3. polycystic morphology on ultrasound

so untuk kriteria pertama tu - definisinya agak luas - pendek kata, period tak teratur laa.. tapi harus diingatkan tak semua period tak teratur tu ade PCOS - lenkali la plak kongsi cite detail pasal ni kan

kriteria kedua - bermaksud simptom-simptom yang menandakan terdapat peningkatakn hormon androgen. androgen ni orang selalu sebut hormon lelaki, tapi sebenernya dua-dua jantina pon menghasilkan hormon ini..tapi bergantung pada jumlahnya pulak sikit ke banyak kan.. contoh-contoh simptom nya adelah berbulu lebat (tapi tak semua yang bebulu lebat adelah kerana hyperandrogenism kan, ade yang kerana genetik), jerawat, rambut botak (male-pattern baldness), central adiposities (kegemukan bahagian abdomen) dan macam-macal lagi la..

ketiga pula - kelihatan cyst-cyst pada ovary yang memenuhi kriteria sekurang-kurangnya lebih 12 cyst yg bersaiz 2-9mm.. 

tapiii harus diingatkan bahawa tidak semua PCOS akan memiliki dan memanifestasi semua ini .. dan juga tidak semua yang memiliki ciri-ciri tersebut adelah PCOS kan..

ini sekadar perkongsian la..takle nak dijadikan penulisan saya ini sebagai bahan asas/rujukan untuk rawatan diri sendiri plak kan.. (kalau ade orang terbace entry ni laa..)

okeh tu kriteria untuk nak memenuhi diagnosis PCOS sahaja..

kalau dah PCOS sekalipun, memang setiap individu berbeza

agar sukar untuk dikatakan semua PCOS harus 'classical' seperti yang kita selalu anggap

'berbulu, gemuk, tak subur'..

kerana PCOS adelah keadaan yang 'heteregenous'

saya memenuhi kesemua kriteria diagnosis PCOS di atas..

so ape manfaatnya mengetahui diganosis tersebut?

kebanyakan simptom PCOS harusla di tackle secara individu..

kalau masalah jerawat, bole cube COCP..

kalau masalah fertility, bole cube ovulation induction..

tapi ade juga orang PCOS yang tiada yang ketara langsung...

pentingnya diagnosis ini adelah kerana kesedaran terhadap risiko-risiko yang berkaitan keadaan ini

contohnya risiko-risiko mendapat diabetes dan penyakit seperti jantung atau stroke

tapi bukanla untuk menakut-nakutkan semua orang kan..

cume kene sedar dan cube untuk membuat LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION !

I'm definitely not a morning person! I snoozed my alarm for at least 4 times before i could eventually get the strength to wake up..

But i'm ever so lucky to have Paih to pack my bento and make me coffee.. I qas not a coffee person but life has been so demanding, and i need it..

It says 'shake shake shake & then you gulp'! Rase nak nyanyi shake it off, shake it off sambil shake tu sebab sangat high lepas minum sedap sangat kottt .. 

Sunday Morning

Simple breakfast on Sunday Morning.. 

After the whole day spent in the British Library the day before (yes,it was saturday!!and yes we r that nerd *_*), we decided to laze around on Sunday.. We spring-cleaned our room, and it's sparkling clean now!!

As we did the cleaning and rearranging, we realised how disorganised we were just because we thought we would move out anytime soon, so we didnt buy any bookcases, storage boxes etc.. 

But, the chance of moving out seems so slim now as we are getting comfortable with this place..so we decided to just get anything necessary to keep the place nice to see..

How do you get rid of the mess on dressing table and study table? How do you make sure your study area looks presentable? Hmmm that's tough.. And it is near to impossible to keep them organised alll the time if you are a person like me.. I would admit that i'm a bit weird  about this, but i need to leave my books or study place exactly the way it was opened and clutttered when i was on my last line of the books/papers/website.. If someone has removed or even changed the angle of my stuff, i need to start all over again to get the feel of previous readings.. (Tak paham takpe).. 

So let say i was reading this.. My paper and highlighter was on that angle, so i need then to stay that way when i want to resume my readings..i'll feel something is not right if it has changed...

Therefore....my desk will never NEVER ever look organised! *sigh*sigh*.. 

Oh get back to the spring cleaning, so we went to Homebase (they have storewide-15% yesterday!!), and we bought several baskets to DECLUTTER our mess! 

I've read an article in Good Housekeeping about how sometimes it is just impossible to organise everything, so you just need to DECLUTTER! means keep the clutters and mess in an organised confined space/area/box (depends on the stuffs).. For example, i have a bowl on my table just to throw in EVERYTHING - keys, lanyards, brooches.. Just because it is impossible for me to straight away arrange my things neatly right after i reach home! 

So yes, since reading the article few years back, i feel 'less bad' about being the way i am, realising that i'm not alone in being 'cluttered'.. 

Shakespeare in Love, Noel Coward Theatre

i could not say that i have a lot of experience about plays or theatres

this was my second play i've ever watched my whole life..

(the first was Macbeth by Shakespeare when i was in Monash)

so we did not expect much from this, 

and it makes us enjoy every little bit of the play to the max!

Balqis even reminded us to 'look nice'..

maybe because we've seen in the movies that people wear nice dresses to the theatre..

so here i was, not with my usual 'floor-sweeping' oversized jeans, 

but with something nicer (i think).

we were so tempted to sneakily snap photos/selfies inside the theatre, but we didn't..

the interior was very classic, as it was opened since 1903!!

(not that i know what other theatres looked like)

Visit Malaysia

I have been telling Paih about this Visit Malaysia Ad on the London Red Buses since last year everytime they pass by... I was wondering what people know about Malaysia, and what makes people attracted to visit us afte looking at this ad...

I'm not an expert, but would people expect that we have endless colourful celebrations all year round?  They are lucky if they come around Hari Merdeka, can wait for the parade and all.. But otherwise, hmmm.. 

Yes i get the idea that we want to portray our cultural diversity with multiracial background, but hmmmm... 

Okeh thats just my thoughts on this..

Btw, i really hope that one day i will have the chance to join the crowd in watching the real-life 'perbarisan hari merdeka'.. That has always been my childhood dream.. I can still remember my childhood 'pagi merdeka', watching the perbarisan on the TV and sing along 'inilah..barisan kita..yang ikhlass berjuang..'

Teal Ribbon - PCOS Awareness!

i was preparing my slides for my project dissertation

and i've just discovered that PCOS has its own 'coloured ribbon'..

its a TEAL ribbon!

one of my favourite colour

i'm not a good writer

but suddenly it appeared to me that i should use my blog to spread awareness about PCOS

i'm not ashamed of my PCOS..

i have a lot to say about it..

why do i think awareness about PCOS is important?

for me, it's not only about your irregular period..

not only about your sub fertility..

not only about your cysts..

it's a lot more than that

every parts of your body are saying something about your PCOS..

it involves EVERYTHING you have to know about your health...

it affects your insulin, and later you are more susceptible to diabetes

..and subsequently put you at risk of cardiovascular disease

not to forget the risk of getting endometrial cancer (scary huh?)

but it's not all nightmares..

people with PCOS are believe to have 'thrifty gene'..

the gene for survival..

when i did some Googling about PCOS websites/blogs

i noticed that most of them are for advertorial purposes

people are selling diet plans/supplements/weightloss tips etc..

and i thought, why don't i share my stories.. 

not only my personal stories, but bits and pieces of things along my research journey..

my research is quite molecular..

too subspecific.. but to get to that point, i discovered new things everyday..

it will be A LOT if i would start talking about it now..

i will write about it bit by bit later..

btw, my blog colour theme matched this PCOS campaign right?!

The Year of Fruits or Flowers

Selamat Ulang Tahun Sayang! 

Baru 4 tahun keee kite kawin? Rase macam dah kawin 100 tahuunn je.. Bukan dah bosan, tapi macam dah tak ingat hidup tanpa awak! 

According to tradition, on 4th anniversary   we should give each other fruits and flowers, so we'll do the shopping 1st thing in the morning tomorrow! 

Priority Seating

setiap kali naik bus, saya amat tidak selesa duduk tingkat bawah

sebab rase amat conscious terhadap penumpang-penumpang lain..

terfikir 'eh makcik ni cukup tua tak utk saya bangun and offer my seat?'

memang benda ni tak perlu penat fikir sangat pun

kalau di Malaysia memang saya rasa clear-cut sikit antara tua dan muda

tapi di sini kadang-kadang yang tua tak rasa tua sangat

semangat juang mereka masih kuat sampai ke bongkok tiga

kadang-kadang risau kalau mereka feel insulted anggap mereka tak mampu berdiri..

so daripada saya confuse2 fikir perlu offer ke tak seat saya kepada orang-orang lain, saya akan terus naik ke tingkat atas kalau perjalanan bus melebihi 10 minit..

macam besar la sangat kan masalah saya ni

cuma di sini cuma saya nak kongsikan bahawa orang tua mereka berbeza

haritu ade sorang pakcik tu mcm dah jalan pon takdela stabil sangat..

saya bangun dan offer seat saya..

lantas die berkata 'so, what about you?'

erk..takkan saya nak cakap yang saya masih muda dan masih bertenaga gagah perkasa kan

so saya jawab aje 'my stop is just few stops away'..

One Step At A Time..

i have been waiting for this first meeting with my project supervisor since last year, before the christmas break.. 

and finally today I can slightly feel at ease knowing that we kind of agreed on the specific research for the dissertation

i know that i want to do this project with him since the first time i heard his name during the orientation week

he has a big name in PCOS

i find PCOS interesting not because of my own experience living with it..

but i know this is the area that can cover almost every system in human body

..i hope everything will turn out well with this project

so here i am feeling motivated..

but for how long this will last?

this coming module (Breast and Reproductive Cancer) demands my whole weekdays..

plus that it's is not my 'thing'.. not my passion..

oh btw, i learned one interesting trivial fact today

the ratio between your second and fourth fingers can say a lot about your early life as an embryo in the past..

 i'll try to find any paper supporting the theory, and i'll share later okeh!

sistem MSc kat UK generally sama je camni.. untuk yang amik full-time, it'll be one whole year.. September-June akan ade taught classes and/or exams.. then starting June - September, akan sepenuhnya work on a project for dissertation..walaupon project lambat lagi tapi dah knee start apply for ethics approval etc.. and dah patut buat background reading/literature review..

NUR MARYAM...

7 hari yang lalu Nur Maryam hadir dalam hidup kami

masa tu dah lewat malam di sini..

dalam pukul 2-3 pagi la masa tu..

memang tak lena tidur tak tahu kenapa, jadi saya duk menonton drama melayu je la bersilih ganti

terkejut tiba-tibe mendapat berita Nur dah dilahirkan

sangat sangat excited!

rupenya takde entry pasal Nur langsung lagi..

sebab gambar-gambar Nur semua dalam aifon..

semoga Nur akan menjadi seorang gegurl yang ayu..

dan penyayang seperti abang Umar nya itu..

Are there too many caesarean sections?

so we had a 'debate' session earlier this week

i was in the group for 'There are too many Caesarean Sections'

so i think i would share a few points here

so what are our recent rates of C-section ?

huge variation of caesarean section rates depends largely on which setting you are looking at

u may find a relatively higher rate in tertiery setting where they get all the complicated referrals

..but even higher rate is seen in private setting

while preparing for the debate, i tried to look for the prevalence of 'non-medically indicated caesarean section rate'.. but i doubt the figures that i found, it's too low!

in private setting (where most of the non-medically-indicated), u can always justify your indication

and caesarean-on-maternal-request is now becoming more acceptable..

so the statistics may be inaccurate

people argue that why would you be denied the right for a caesarean section if you can afford it?

i might be bias in saying this, but did all of the mother know the exact risk they are dealing with?

yes, women rarely die from childbirth nowadays, but do you know the financial burden and morbidities caused by this increasing rate?

doctors are seeing more rare conditions such as 'placenta accrete/percreta' nowadays

and evidence are saying this is due to the increasing rate of caesarean section

but in some parts of the world, the caesarean section rate is too low

this underuse of c-section is reflected by its high neonatal mortality rate

it's not fair right?

some parts of the world, we are overusing it, 

but somewhere else, people are dying without it...

but it's never going to be fair..

the main point is,

even if we live in a place where you can pay for everything,

think wisely

is the risk taken worth the benefit?

Aglio E Olio On Saturday

Believe it or not this is my first time making my own Aglio E Olio.. seriously!

the best i had so far was Enab's.. and i will never forget it..

and why now? 

Paih has been like 'awak...saya rasa terliuur sgt nak olio olio' for quite sometime..

and being me, i could never live without nasi, so his wish were left hanging..

but on my way home yesterday, suddenly it struck me that..

'hmmm ape salahnye tak makan nasi esok kan'

so here we are.. 3 rounds of Aglio E Olio in 1 day!!

(i couldn't find fresh parsley and parmesan @Tesco today)

but mine was quite dry because i haven't got enough olio d'oliva

but it tastes yummy nevertheless!!

but it doesn't look good enough without sprinkles of green fresh parsley

i know it's the simplest italian meal, but i'm still super excited because i don't know why i haven't tried this earlier

the trickiest part is 'garam gula secukup rasa' part

most recipes will say 'a pinch of salt' or 'secubit garam dan gula'

no no no, it's not that simple okay!

 Chef John  mentioned about the key part of the recipe is toasting the garlic..

"No two spaghetti aglio e olio recipes are alike, but this one is pretty true to the classic method. The key is slowly toasting the garlic slices to a perfect golden-brown in the olive oil. If it's too light, you don't get the full flavor and if it's too dark it gets bitter. My advice? Do it perfectly."

Italian Lace

During our stay in Italy, we noticed that laces and needleworks are a common part of their life.. The first house that we rented in Chianni, Tuscany were full of these.. All the beddings, napkins and table runners were sooo sweet and mouth-watering (yes!!that's definitely the word i intent to use).. The owner had a hard time trying to think where can we buy them as almost everything in their house are hand-made by their moms and grandmoms.. 

And this little kitty is on the front door of a lace-shop in Lago Maggiore, but unfortunately it was closed on that day. 

In Florence, we went into a shop that sells maybe this kind of thing,towels and   napkins. It was not 'made-in-china' usual thing.. It was said to be pure 'Tuscan Fabrics'.. Omg really drooling! But as it is in the middle of Ponte Vecchio (the main tourist attraction in Florence), the price was ridiculous..so we didnt buy anything from that shop. 

But at least we had our time in La Rosa, a small suburb in the valley in Tuscany.. The owner of the first house suggested that place, Magazzini Mangini. It was a big outlet of home supplies, but there was a big section that suits our taste.

Kak Noni said that Mummy's smile was the most obvious thing in this picture.. 

We were all sooo over the moon! Grabbing whatever we think will look nice  in our house! Aaaa even thinking about it makes me cry out of joy!! 

And then my thoughts were back to my previously mentioned 'intention' to learn knitting or crocheting. I dont have any basic knowledge about either of them, so i Googled. So i guess maybe i'll give crocheting a try (later). Firstly, I have to get myself a 'crochet for beginner kit'.. But the angan-angan can start from now kan.. 

All this crochet images are from Google.. Aisya, i will make you this baby elephant one day.. InsyaAllah.. Because i know your have the loudest laugh at the moment! Hihi. 

Gastronomy

This is some of our daily meals for the past 10 days in Italy. They were the simplest and cheapest way to keep our tummy happy 😘 some of them were prepared with only vegies and onion without any frying..

On good days, we had Tonno (tuna) with our pasta.. For kelantanese tastebuds like mine, Riso is easily available at the supermarceto.. And throughout our long drive, I had my crackers or pancakes with Nutella dip..the best snack ever,!!!

Seventh Anniversary!

Be prepared! my entries will be flooded with our winterbreak pics soon.. Oh i missed the entry for 26th of December and 1st of January, the dates that reminds me how lucky I was to find him *blush-blush* ^_^

So now we are back to London after TWELVE days in Italy! Omg, seriously it was the trip of our lifetime..we have dreamt for this trip for six(maybe) years.. We had so much fun compiling our 'travel-the-world-with-us' wishlist back then.. *soo childish!!* we promised ourselves to update that blog while ticking off the list, but time passed by, we were carried away with 'growing-up' that we forgot about it. 

So Sayang, Happy Anniversary to us! Hope you had a great time, as much as i did, during this winter break with Mummy, Daddy and Balqis.

Angin malam..

omg!! saya tengah sepenuh perasaan melayan lagu-lagu broery!!

lagi haru sebab tak dapat terus nak share dengan aisya and balqis sebab dua-dua sibuk nak exam..

saya ni org dah abis exam..kikiki..

arrghhh nak duet ngan mereka sekarang jugak!!! 

lagu yang paling saya terbuai adelah lagu 'angin malam'..

tapi tk jumpe la pulak nk download kat mane yang tak perlu register.. 

saya bercadang nak dengar lagu-lagu broery la mase jalan-jalan kat Italy nanti..

Jane Austen Land

seumur hidup saya, walaupon sering mendapat peluang membaca tulisan Jane Austen, saya tak pernah terpanggil untuk membacanya..mungkin kerana terlalu banyak perbincangan mengenainya menyebabkan saya merasakan ia adalah bacaan serius dan takut tak bersesuaian dengan jiwa saya...

satu-satunya Jane Austen-related story yang perch saya baca adelah 'I Was Jane Austen's Best Friend' hasil karya Cora Harrison. Sesungguhnya saya memang amat meminati buku tersebut kerana saya memang amat menggemari setting klasik hasil tulisan zaman moden seperti karya Julia Quinn. buku ini membuat saya sering tergelak seorang diri dan saya tidak dapat meletakkan buku itu sehingga ke mukasurat terakhir (unsur exagerasi sedikit di situ sebenarnya).

sejak dari itu saya menyimpan azam untuk memiliki novel kedua hasil karya penulis yang sama yang amat rapat persamaannya dengan buku pertama tersebut, namun belum pernah ketemu. tidaklah saya sampai mencari di Amazon pon kerana bagi saya jika ia hadir di hadapan saya, saya anggap ia adalah Jodoh... jodoh bukan untuk dicari, namun untuk ditemui... itu pendapat saya, pegangan saya secara amnya.. ia seperti kehidupan saya...tidak perlu terlalu menginginkan sesuatu, ia akan datang jika ia milik kita. tapi tidaklah bermaksud tidak bole bermimpi tinggi ke awan, tapi lebih selamat jika tenang begitu. oh sudah kisah kehidupan lain pula. 

so inilah buku kedua kesinambungan dari buku tadi, 'Jane Austen Stole My Boyfriend'. melihatkan tajuk sahaja pun sudah memadai membuatkan saya melompat di dalam hati...insyaAllah, suatu hari.

 selain dari itu, tidak pernah terlintas untuk mempunyai koleksi Jane Austen yang sebenar.

tapi pada suatu hari, saya ke British Library Gift Shop. terdapat satu ruang khas untuk Jane Austen's Collection. bukan, bukan buku-bukunya dijual di situ...yang terdapat disitu adalah collector's item untuk peminat  tegar Jane Austen..terdapat buku-buku seperti 'Jane Austen's Guide to Modern Life Dilemma', 'The Jane Austen Handbook' dan sebagainya.. terdapat satu rak penuh dengan barang-barang bertemakan penulis tersebut seperti 'ipad cover', jewellery boxes etc.. pada masa itu saya dapat bayangkan bahawasanya Jane Austen sudah tentu memberi impak besar kepada para pembaca hasil-hasilnya. 

lantas saya terfikir, kenapa tidak saya cuba?

sambil menunggu bus 56 di Angel Station, saya singgah sebentar di The Book Warehouse, sebuah kedai buku yang sering saya kunjungi. wah terdapat promosi buku-buku klasik... 3 bijik £5.99 sahaja.. terus sahaja saya mengambil peluang tersebut sebagai motivasi menanti tamatnya peperiksaan..

sejurus selepas peperiksaan, saya menonton sebuah filem 'The Jane Austen Book Club' untuk mendapatkan mood yang sesuai sebelum memulakan pembacaan saya.. sekadar mendapatkan mood dan emosi yang sesuai..

benar seperti dijangka, filem ini membuatkan saya tertanya-tanya apakah kisah dalam novel-novel asalnya..

cube tengok trailer ini,  antara anda amat menyukainya atau langsung tidak berminat.. ia adalah bersifat 'all-or-nothing'.. filem ini bukanlah adaptasi novel-novel Jane Austen secara terus.. ia mengisahkan 5 wanita menghadapi liku-liku kehidupan namun bersatu melalui 'book-club' mereka...sudah tentu la lelaki sorang tu menjadi perhatian saya :p

banyak lagi dalam perancangan saya...setelah menghabiskan tiga novel ini, saya bercadang mau mendapatkan 3 bijik yang lain pula... kemudian mula satu persatu menonton filem adaptasi novel-novel tersebut pula.. selepas itu saya akan cube membuat koleksi hasil-hasil adaptasi karya Jane Austen yang ditulis oleh penulis lain.. yang santai-santai je la mcm Cora Harrison punye tadi tu.. banyak rupanya..contohnya 'Mr. Darcy's Daugters', 'Little Miss Austen',  'Young Mr Darcy In Love' and etc..

ok, sehingga ketemu lagi..
